I wonder how many firework displays over the country – and indeed /the commonweath/ decided it would be a good idea to have the event covered by their local radio station. I’m not sure what 45 minutes of whizzes and bangs did to /Kixx 96 FM/ ‘s ratings, but the countdown to start it off was comedy gold…
*Presenter:* OK, here we have 6 year old Oliver from Coundon to press the button and start the fireworks. OK Oliver, do you want to press the button?
*P:* You don’t?
*P:* OK, quick someone else! We’re on /live radio/ here!
Alright, can we have a countdown everyone?

I particularly liked the part where, during the stadium tannoy rendition of /Jerusalem/ the union flag in the centre of the field caught a few unfortunately angled rockets and looked like it was going to go up with the display. I felt like standing up and saluting.
